Socotra season 2022

The season in Socotra is finally over and the team is over the moon for the fishing experience we had during 6 weeks of fishing. Despite this season having been logistically tough, we managed to run it smoothly and came to the end with incredible results and super happy customers.

It’s hard to describe in words what we experience, but we can say the season highlight could be three different days of fishing when we recorded more than 60 GT strikes each day ( we don’t count small fish under 15 kg ), two days topped with Sailfish on Popper, and few days when we had big Yellowfin with some fish in the 40 kg to 70 kg range and an absolute monster of 90-100 kg on a popper, plus some other huge one lost.

Overall we landed sixteen GT over 50 kg and a couple of fish in the over 65 kg range. Everything it have been topped with countless Mackarell attack and spectacular airborne, some days even way too many, and various bycatch like Grouper, Jobfish, Snapper, Whaoo, Rainbow Runner, Cobia, Mahi Mahi and any kind of Trevally.

For me personally, the most special part of this season was our fly fishing exploration of this place. I have been here so many times, always completely occupied by our season, for the first time we had the opportunity to really explore the fly fishing potential of this incredible place. Results were mindblowing but that is a subject for another article that is coming soon ;)

Tight Lines,

Nicola
